If any of this sounds familiar

Most of my clients say some version of the same four things.

01You are the one everyone relies on, and there is nobody you can put it down with.
02You can function perfectly well and still feel like something is quietly wrong.
03The evenings disappear to worry that you cannot name in the morning.
04You have been meaning to do something about it for about two years.

You do not need a referral, a diagnosis, or a reason that sounds serious enough. You need a time that works and someone to talk to.

Ways we can work

Three ways in.
All of them start with a conversation.

Extended session

More room in one sitting. Useful when travel, childcare or shift work make a weekly rhythm unrealistic.

Couples

For two people who keep having the same argument in different clothes. We work on the pattern, not the incident.

About

I am not going to ask how that makes you feel.

Hi, I am Sarah. I work with people who are competent at everything except putting themselves down for a minute.

Most of the people I see have been managing for a long time and are very good at it. That is usually the problem. In our sessions we slow it down enough to notice what is actually happening, and then we work on it properly rather than managing around it.

I work with cognitive behavioural and emotion-focused approaches, which in practice means we spend time on both what you are thinking and what you are carrying. The first session is mostly me listening.

It is a fifteen minute call. You are not committing to anything.

Psychotherapy is not covered by OHIP. Most extended health plans in Ontario do reimburse psychotherapy provided by a Registered Psychotherapist. Ask your plan two things: does it cover a Registered Psychotherapist, and what is the annual maximum. Coverage can sit under psychotherapy, counselling, mental health, or a shared paramedical allowance, so check more than one heading.

Sessions are exempt from sales tax. Nothing is added to these fees.

Questions

The things people ask before they book.

Do I need a referral?
No. You can book directly, and you do not need a diagnosis or a note from your doctor.
How many sessions will I need?
It depends on what you bring and what you want to be different. Some people come for a handful of sessions with something specific. Others work for months. We review it together as we go, and I will tell you honestly when I think you are done.
Will my insurance cover it?
Most extended health plans reimburse psychotherapy provided by a Registered Psychotherapist. Ask your plan whether it covers a Registered Psychotherapist and what the annual maximum is. Your receipt carries everything an insurer asks for.
What happens in the first session?
We go through your history, what brought you here, and what you want to be different. You will not be asked to talk about anything before you are ready. Most people say afterwards that it was easier than they expected.
Is it confidential?
Yes, with a small number of limits set by law, which I go through with you before we start and which are written into the consent documents.
Can I see you if I live outside Ontario?
My registration covers clients located in Ontario. If you are elsewhere, tell me at the consultation and I will check what is possible or help you find someone who can see you there.
The next step

Starting is the part that takes the longest.

If you have read this far, something brought you here. Fifteen minutes is a small thing to give it.

Or email hello@bellandreed.ca and I will find you a time.
